Painting with Light

Photography, by definition, is “painting with light.” Today in my little class of 4th and 5th graders, we experimented with this idea. Using a dark room and flashlights with colored gels attached, we exposed the camera to 30 seconds at f-22.

Overall the project was a lot of fun! Here’s some of their pictures:

Have a great weekend everyone!

really nice! I bet the kids were psyched. I wonder if you or they would be interested in this software I made. I’m still working on it, but basically, it lets you do light painting and see the results as you go: http://scripts.mit.edu/~eric_r/glowdoodle/

    Hey Eric,

That’s really awesome that you created a software to do this through the home-user webcam. They are only 9 and 10 years old, but I’ll pass the link on to them. :)

    It’s beautiful stuff! :)
